Song of the Week #49: Dr Teeth & the Electric Mayhem "Can You Picture That?"
I've heard this song so many times in the past 6 months. It's a favorite on the way to pre-school for Emma and heck, listening to The Muppets is better than some other more annoying children's music!

Click and crank it up though as Dr. Teeth rocks the house on this cut - the saxophone part alone is worth the click! A lot of the '70s material that came from Jim Henson and Co. is really great stuff if you separate the puppets from the music. I remember my friend Matt and I laying on the floor of his dorm room, staring at the ceiling one afternoon in college (stone cold sober) listening to "I’m Going to Go Back there Someday" and marveling at how wonderful the song was. Check that out below.

But seriously, listen to the killer sax part on this cut and the wonderful wordplay. Name another song that contains “Aurora Borealis, shinin’ down on Dallas!” I love that line – it’s just so cool. This version is the film version (which is slightly different to the one Emma and I rock to on the way to pre-school) and starts with some dialog. Keep it rolling at the end for a brilliant line by Dr. Teeth when Fozzie asks if they’ll join them on the way to Hollywood and Dr. Teeth says very drying, “We can’t baby, but when you become rich and famous maybe we’ll show up and exploit your wealth.” Classic!

Lyrics below and check out some other brilliant tracks below.

Can You Picture That?

Dr. Teeth:
Ohhh yeah! Whooo!
Everybody's lover, everybody's brother, I wanna be your lifetime friend.
Crazy as a rocket, nothin’ in my pocket, I keep it at the rainbow's end.
I never think of money, I think of milk 'n honey, grinnin’ like a cheshire cat.
I focus on the pleasure, somethin' I can treasure, can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

Dr. Teeth: (spoken) Hey, Floyd, take a verse!

Floyd Pepper:
Let me take your picture, add it to the mixture, there it is I got you now!
Really nothin' to it, anyone can do it, it's easy and we all know how.
Now begins the changin', mental rearrangin', nothing's really where it's at,
Dr. Teeth:
Now the Eiffel Tower's holdin up a flower.
I gave it to a Texas cat!

Floyd:
Fact is there's nothin out there you can't do
Yeah, even Santa Claus believes in you.
Dr. Teeth:
Beat down the walls, begin, believe, behold, begat.
Floyd:
Be a better drummer, be an up and comer. Can you picture that?
Animal:
CAN YOU PICTURE THAT??!!

Floyd:
All of us are winnin’, pickin’ and a-grinnin, Lordy but I love to jam
Janice
Jelly-belly gigglin’, dancin’ and a-wigglin’, honey that's the way I am!
Dr. Teeth:
Lost my heart in Texas, Northern lights affect us, I keep it underneath my hat,
Aurora Borealis, shinin’ down on Dallas! Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

(Chorus)
Can you picture? You gotta see it in your mind!
Can you picture? You know it's quick and easy to find!
Can you picture? You don't have to buy a frame!
Can you picture? Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

Floyd:
Use it if you need it
Dr. Teeth:
Don't forget to feed it!
All:
Can you picture that?

(On the soundtrack -- not in the movie...)
Janice: (spoken): Oh wow, can you get behind it? Fer shurely...

More:

“I’m Going to Go Back There Someday” (don’t mind the video – it’s the only full version on youtube)
“I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” (I used to dance with Emma to this every night when she was younger)
“I Hope That Something Better Comes Along” (best lounge song ever)
