Song of the Week: #68: Giant "I'll See You in My Dreams"
Frankly I’ve been so immersed in Tara MacLean and Trans-Siberian Orchestra the last couple of weeks that not too many new tracks and albums have broken through that barrier. So what looks good in the archives?

Giant (w/ Dann Huff) – “I’ll See You in My Dreams”

This song and the album it’s from, 1989’s Last of the Runaways, always reminds me of Fall as it was my staple Soccer cassette – all of my friends were soccer players but I wasn’t so I used to go to every High School game sit on the grass, pop in this cassette in my Sony walkman, rock out and watch.

I saw Giant open for Heart (July 18, 1990) and picked up the cassette single (remember that 4 year fad?) to get somewhat acquainted before the show and was hooked after their all-too-short opening set. Unfortunately, slow album sales and grunge killed any momentum they had. Keyboardist Alan Pasqua left after the first album, Mike Brignardello is now a session bassist in Nashville (pick up a record recorded there and chances are he is on it), David Huff (drummer) is working with Mike to re-form Giant 2009, and Dann Huff the principal songwriter, vocalist and brilliant guitarist is a well-known Producer in Nashville (Jewel, Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, etc.).

But this is a killer track – a much higher class than the typical power ballad of the late ‘80s, some really melodic guitar, some searing lead guitar work, a passion-filled vocal, and even the video is pretty good for that time period..

Turn it up and enjoy.
