Bp's Song of the Week #96: Kerry Ellis "Dangerland"
Close your eyes and imagine that quintessential tone and style of Brian May’s guitar playing from the classic Queen tracks.

Now imagine a powerhouse female vocalist singing with that amazing guitar.

“Coooooooommmmmeee with me” – awesome

“Dangerland” was written by Brian May and could very easily have fit on Queen’s Innuendo. It’s great to hear Brian’s signature guitar and Kerry’s powerful and emotive vocals. JB handed me her debut CD, Anthems a week or two back and when I saw Brian’s name on the back as producer I knew it would have to go to the top of my pile of things to listen to. I wasn’t prepared for the drama of Queen combined with the great female vocal and was immediately drawn in by this track, the opener. BTW, the drummer on this performance is Rufus Taylor (son of Queen’s Roger Taylor).

As I continued to listen she kept enchanting me and by the time she got to “Defying Gravity” (from Wicked), I was sold. Check out a live performance of that cut below – amazing. Kerry was in the London cast of the Queen-inspired musical We Will Rock You, and most notably spent 6-months as Elphaba in the Broadway run of Wicked, followed by a 2-year stunt in London in the same role. Brian saw her in a performance of My Fair Lady when she was an understudy, which lead to the WWRY role. Her tone is brilliant and she’s equally incredible when she’s soft and gentle as when she’s belting it to the rafters.
