Song of the Week #57: Matt Nathanson "Detroit Waves/Kids in America" (live)

Matt Nathanson: Detroit Waves/Kids in America – live from Deep Rock Drive

I finally had the chance to see Matt live this past weekend after a really long wait. I’ve spent countless hours listening and watching live footage online as he has an open-taper policy and the stuff that is out there is brilliant, energetic, passionate, hilarious, and he has become over the past couple of years one of my favorite artists.

The way he engages an audience with his quick wit, self-deprecating humor, and extensive knowledge of musical history. Oh, and there’s his amazing 7-album catalog as well. Yes, he’s been around that long touring the U.S. back to front for the last 10 years or so.

Detroit Waves/Kids in America (yes, that KIA) was a highlight along with Wedding Dress the other night at SPAC. He didn’t even play my favorite Matt song, but I didn’t care, he won me over and I was fully converted. I could go on for hours on Matt minutia, but just click a couple links here and let him work his magic on you.
