Song of the Week #3 - Grace Potter & the Nocturnals "Nothin' But the Water"
A truly magical performance at the Boston Music Awards a few years back from the amazingly talented Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. The first section of the song is a capella and Grace just brings down the house. Some have compared her to Janis, but for my tastes she's that and much more.

After the a capella section, the band comes in with a bass/drum groove so deep it should be a national park. Scott comes in with an unassuming telecaster riff, and then Grace steps up to the Hammond B-3 and magic is created.

Simply amazing.

If you dug that Grace gem from their first Hollywood Records release - check out another brilliant performance of a newer cut from This is Somewhere that hit streets in 2007 (turn it up):
"Big White Gate"
"So nurse, 'Bring me my guitar, one more song before I go."
"Ah Mary" - Grace wields a Gibson Flying V

Grace Potter
Fantastic. Great tune, great singer, and you can't beat a good Hammond. I just wish the guitar player was just a LITTLE more interesting. That would have put this thing WAY over the top.
Brad, you're doing a wonderful thing. Thanks.

To comment on the last comment - Scott Tournet rules on guitar - best new guitar talent I have seen in years - he is very restrained in this clip true - this was shot 2-3 years ago. If you see Scott now, he will blow you away - guaranteed - he is smoking hot now, as is the band - the combo of Grace and Scott right now is a deadly combo indeed on the road - a must see.
Just caught two blazin' shows last month in CT & NH.
Also caught 2 out of 3 in Boston in early Dec - best live band on the road right now - a must see ! New album is great too!
Thanks for posting Grace, Brad !
Thanks for spreading the word!
