Bp's Song of the Week #95: Hurts "Better Than Love"
Thanks to Shaun for turning me onto these guys. He was raving about this act from the U.K. called Hurts and sent a link around for their single, “Wonderful Life,” which was pretty catchy and interesting so I kept clicking links on youtube and was pretty impressed. When his import arrived he let me spin it and I can’t stop listening to it.

Hurts “Better Than Love”

This is my current favorite on the album, for no other reason than it’s infectious and catchy. The vocal is urgent and commanding, the pulsing keyboard line underneath the chorus is haunting, and the driving beat just goes right through you. If you don’t get it on the first listen, try again and you will.

Hurts is a duo from Manchester U.K., singer Theo Hutchcraft and keyboardist Adam Anderson. Synth pop is not something I usually find myself listening to – although Nik Kershaw is a synth pop icon in my book – but this album has so many well crafted songs with great choruses and vibey beats. All of their videos are really well done pseudo-films that leave you scratching your head.
