Bp's Song of the Week #111: Zac Brown Band "Cold Hearted"
Zac Brown Band “Cold Hearted”

Sometimes it’s as simple as a great melody, harmony chorus, and honest songwriting.

There’s not a whole lot more to say really on this one.

I’ve been reconnecting on many levels over the past 10 days with a bunch of Marillion’s music in a big way. But I can’t tell you over the past few years how many Song of the Week’s on Marillion I’ve started, but cannot finish. There’s so much to write about, so much to say…so many people who haven’t heard of them and I feel as if I need to make the first introduction so perfect. It needs to convey exactly how I feel about the nuances and to portray the reasons why I love them so much – I end up trying and not finishing it…some day.

So instead of what I had planned for this week, it’s the Zac Brown Band.

I don’t have a lot of history with the band, but having been impressed with their success over the last couple of years playing the game their way, on their terms, I gladly gave their latest record a spin when it came out last year. There were a handful of tracks that stood out to me and I ripped them to my work computer.

While listening to the new Within Temptation album over the last couple of weeks, these songs follow that album alphabetically and while they’re totally different styles, I haven’t stopped the ZBB songs when the Within Temptation album has finished. I’ve listened to the trio of songs featured here repeatedly. They’re stuck into the ‘country’ genre by today’s standards, but honestly, they’re not that different from the Eagles or a lot of ‘70s and ‘80s roots rock bands.

Give it a spin, you might be surprised.
